On the web, your name can (and is) your reality. However naming yourself online isn’t that simple. Choosing a domain name for a business web presence is one of the most critical items in your promotional venture: your domain name will be the nexus of your business for months, years, or even decades.
There are a list of things you should consider before embarking down your online venture:
1) Define your brand. It is more than words, but will be flavored by them. Your business brand is an image of who you are. Ask your friends, family, and peers what your ideas inspire when the words are read.
2) The idea of a business brand is to be memorable, yet effective in communicating the purpose of your business. It is usually more effective to focus on communicating your purpose, rather than just developing your widget as a term.
3) If you can’t get a com extension, choose again. There are plenty of other extension like net and info, but whatever case that is: you will need to also have the com extension or risk losing your brand before it has ever been established. (Businesses should register the com, net, info extensions for a business)
4) If you think of related names in the process, register them today. $10 today is a lot cheaper than the impossibility of getting it tomorrow.
5) Keep it short. A good domain name should be one to three words long. It should not include hyphens or any other characters that are out of place. Shorter domains are generally better for two basic reasons: they are easier to spell and remember.
6) Don’t be scared of going long. Yes, I just said “keep it short”, but having a long domain name has the benefit of saying exactly what you do. Long domains also pull some weight in keyword search results, so having “real estate” in a real estate domain helps a site rank for those terms.
7) Multiple Domains are Okay! So many businesses lock on to the idea of having one site to send readers to. While having focus is good, multiple domains and sites allows a company to have different presentations for different audiences. Multiple domains and sites can also allow a single business to have multiple results in search engines, which allows them to conquest the first page of search results on terms that drive results.
Recognize how you can misspell your own domain. If you have any words that do not carry clearly when spoken or are easy to misspell, register the misspelled version of the keywords. $10 for a misspelled version of your own site name is a very affordable way of preventing client loss or competitive problems in the future.
9) Buy alternate domain names today. At less that $10 a piece, alternate domain names can provide a very reliable way to promote your business and help protect your reputation. If you have any public figures in the business, make sure to spend the $10 to buy personal name domains (firstnamelastname) and any slogans or catch phrases.
10) Realize that your domains are being promoted to both humans and search robots. They each like slightly different things and you should create a strategy for having multiple domains and how they coordinate relevant traffic to your business.
Bonus point: If you are trying to use a new domain for competitive search engine ranking, register the domain for five years. Search engines give credit to the length of a registration to help identify if a new site is a spam site being used to manipulate the search results. By committing to a longer stay, you help establish your virtual reputation in the eyes of engines like Google and Yahoo.
Do not jump the gun! Remember that a domain choice has many different angles to it. It can easily be compared to choosing a real world location for your business: where will it be? what does the neighborhood say? who will see it? how long will you be using it?
If you are a small business, then $50 to $100 to secure a domain name for a few years may seem like a major investment. For larger companies, spending $500 to $1000 for a larger competitive search optimization and brand protection effort is a good investment (for instance, do you own yoursitesucks?)
Understanding that a good domain may mean the difference between five visitors a month or five thousand, greatly changes how your business functions online. With a well organized strategy behind multiple domains, different niche streams of visitors become easier to reach and increase the chance that they will convert into business results.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site took on a new dimension last year with free online courses anyone can do.  The result is a virtual nexus, where people from all over the world learn simple tools developed by L. Ron Hubbard and use them to improve conditions in their own lives and those of their friends, families and their communities at large.

RUMORS ARE making rounds that Apple is all set to unveil its much coveted iphone 4G on January 27 – the event earmarked for the launch of its tablet device in San Francisco, United States.The company is supposedly touting iPhone 4G as an answer to rival Google’s Nexus One. Apple issued invitations to media outlets on Monday to “join us for an invitation-only event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco on January 27 at 10:00a.m.”The event will be showcased live from San Francisco by Fox network. In September 2009, Apple had surprised everyone by suddenly unveiling the latest generation iPod Touch just before the Fall iPod event – reason why everybody has set eyes on the Jan 27 event which may or may not be the official launch of iPhone 4G.As per PC World, the iPhone 4G will come with some of the most interesting patents.  One of the patents is supposedly a “grid of piezoelectronic actuators” which could mean “the ability to feel virtual buttons or a click wheel and receiving small vibrations from the handset.”Another Apple patent suggests the “detection of a user’s individual fingerprints as an input method, a security implementation likely to be welcomed by many. It could also mean allowing different parts of the iPhone and any applications to open or locked to different users.”PC World also reveals that the last Apple patent application places a Radio-frequency identification tag reader in the actual display panel of a device, allowing it to read RFIS tags. “RFID tags are small circuits that can be embedded in objects for identification using a special reader.”

Nexus One gets yet another Android 2.2 Froyo update, FRF91

HTC fastest in July to enter the mainland or to the operation of dual-branded smart phone magnates in China

May 24 news sources revealed to ZDNet, “If all goes well, the earliest on July 16, Acer Aspire 3000 Battery HTC (HTC) will formally enter the mainland market to take over the Dopod and channels in the domestic market, taking over after the HTC and is likely to double brand Dopod operation, HTC more into the retail channel, Dopod operator specializing in custom. ”

This means that HTC will be formally Huijun mainland market, the domestic smart phone market, with Nokia and Motorola are the direct exchange of fire.

Headquartered in China Taiwan’s HTC is the world’s fourth largest manufacturer of smart phones, the main production using Microsoft Window Mobile and Google Android smart phone system. IDC report released in February this year showed that the year 2009, HTC to 8.1 million of sales-leading Motorola and Samsung, followed by Nokia, RIM and Apple in the global smartphone vendor in the fourth.

HTC smart phone is only in recent years, production of the global brand awareness is also rising.

“China smart phone market is still growing rapidly, and third party data showed the domestic 3G smartphone in 2010 the market size will more than 6 million. Standing in line at immigration be it at the airport or on the road can be frustrating. I remember once waiting for 3 hours at Ambassador Bridge at the Detroit border crossing; I had two bored kids in the car and a screaming baby. Nowadays there is no need to wait in line for long periods. The NEXUS card offers expedited travel by road, air and sea. Qualifying as a NEXUS Card Holder

NEXUS cards are given to low risk travellers who are permanent residents or citizens of either the US or Canada who have lived in one or both countries on a continuous basis for at least the last three years. Low risk means that you have no criminal record or previous border violations. Even the simplest of offences will count against you no matter how many years have passed since the crime or violation was committed. Border officials security check every applicant to make sure that their immigration and citizenship details are correct and legal. Criminal history is checked with the US FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, CSIS and Interpol. No-fly lists and databases tracking known terrorists are also checked – for every applicant.

Applying for a NEXUS Card

Getting the card is simple. You can fill out an application online at the Global Online Enrollment System or print off a paper application from the Canadian Border Services website and mail it to the NEXUS offices in either Niagara Falls or Montreal.  Filling out the form online takes around one hour providing you are computer literate, but the benefit is that you don’t have to scan in documents for submission with your application. Some of the jargon is technical and you must check your application thoroughly before you certify that the contents are accurate – incomplete or inaccurate information will result in your application being delayed and in some instances denied. The paper application contains a lot of detailed notes but they are not laid out in a user friendly manner. Nevertheless, there are fewer questions to answer with the paper application – but nothing to significantly reduce the form filling time from an hour. A point to note for those who despise filling in forms is that every person in your family or party must be a NEXUS card holder if you are to fast track the border together; even young children have to have their own NEXUS card. This can mean a lot of work to those applying with family, friends or loved ones. The cost for each application is $50 payable in US or Canadian dollars.  Once your application is conditionally approved you attend an interview for an iris scan, fingerprinting and a chat with a border official about the NEXUS program. After this your card is issued and you can use it immediately. The best news is that the NEXUS card is also accepted in place of your passport when travelling between Canada and the States.
